What to Pack for a Safari Trip

Going on a safari trip is an exciting adventure. During this trip, you will get to meet plenty of wild animals, natural landscapes and plenty more. However, going on a safari is not the same as visiting the zoo. When going on a safari, you need to prepare yourself for what is to come. You need to make sure that you have everything you need. If you have not been on a safari, it can be quite hard for you to pack for this trip. People have a tendency to over-pack and take things that they have absolutely no use for. If this is your first time on a safari, here some things that you definitely need to take with you.

Water Bottle

When you go on Africa safaris, you need to keep in mind the effect of the weather. Since the continent is a warm one, the weather will be quite hot. So, you need to drink as much water as you can to prevent dehydration. So, before you go on the safari, fill your bottle with water. Do not take any food with you since it is dangerous to do so.

Flashlight

This is especially important when you go on night safaris. This will come in handy if you get lost or cannot find your way. Before you take your flashlight, make sure that it is fully charged. Take a couple of batteries if you want to. Just because you take a flashlight with you, it does not mean you should use it all the time. Using a flashlight during night time can attract attention towards you. This can also disturb the animals. Therefore, only use it when there is an emergency.

Map

Whether you are traveling with a tour guide or not, it is absolutely essential for you to have a map of the safari site. This will definitely be helpful in case you get lost on the way. Before you embark on the trip, take a good look at the map. Figure out the key landmarks and routes. This way, you will be able to identify where you currently are and where you are going.

Camera

It is not compulsory for you to take a camera with you. These days most smartphones compensate for cameras. If you are interested in taking pictures of the wildlife, then you need to take one of these with you. However, you need to be extremely careful about when you click the button. Do not snap pictures when you are close to the animals. This can distract them and turn their attention towards you. If your camera has good zoom quality, you will be able to take high-quality picture from a good distance.

Insect Repellent

When you go through forests and deserts, you are likely to come across mosquitoes and various other insects. Although these insects are not poisonous – not most of the time – they can be annoying. They might even cause some allergies. This is why it is important for you to take an insect repellent with you. If you do not wish to bombard your bag, then apply this cream at least 30 minutes before you begin the trip.

Apart from these essentials, you might also want to take sunscreen and a hat to protect you from the sun. Taking a pair of binoculars is a wise idea too.
